Demand-led coolant control

A MAP-controlled thermostat combines a thermostat mechanism with an electrical heating element. It is used in engine cooling circuits where the vehicle controller needs to influence the thermostat response for different operating conditions.

Thermostat structure

How the assembly works

The thermostat is installed in the coolant circuit. As the thermal element responds to temperature, the valve changes coolant flow through the circuit. When the controller energizes the integrated heating cartridge, it adds heat to the working element and can influence the opening response.

Application review

Component selection depends on the coolant medium, required thermal characteristic, electrical interface, installation envelope and vehicle validation requirements. The TU-POLY Engineering Team reviews these conditions with customers before defining a configuration.
